Round Mountain Girls News and Happenings

Golden Fiddle Door Shuts As Bluesfest Door Opens.

Rab Tamworth

THEY'VE SCALED THE HEIGHTS OF WOODFORD AND TAMWORTH. CAN THE ROUND MOUNTAINEERS NOW CONQUER THE DIZZY ALTITUDE OF THE BYRON BAY BLUESFEST???

Several venues in Tamworth are undertaking extensive surgery on their dance floors after the Round Mountain Girls and their ever-growing band of followers took the town by storm at this years Country Music Festival. Every festival throws up a new band that becomes the new buzz. Following on from the buzz they buzzed at Woodford, the band are now set to become a national institution. RMG would like to thank the people that came along to their shows and made them such an event. Bassist Willy B said "the response to the show was amazing." When asked about the audiences at the gigs, he said "We received such positive feedback from so many people. They've really insprired us to kick on. We'll record a new album and we're in the process of putting together a nationwide tour."

Ex-hospital worker, Gupta Ravishankar told us that he had been sacked from his job for taking too many sick days. Mr Ravishankar had already taken all his annual leave when he camped outside the Duck and Shovel venue at Woodford to ensure he would get in to see RMG. He then feigned food poisoning so that he could see his heroes at Tamworth. Speaking from the Prihaya Indian Restaurant where he was staying with relatives, Mr Ravishankar told us that losing his job was a small price to pay for the privilege of following his favourite band. He urged others to pack in their regular jobs so that they too can become disciples. The highlight of his stay in Tamworth was when the band turned up on two occasions to eat at his relatives restaurant. Banjo player Chris Eaton, stated, "It's taken me 5 long years to find a decent curry house in Australia, but the wait is finally over. Mr Ravishankar was so overjoyed he cried, and then gave his esteemed customers an extra popadom each.

The band is ecstatic at being added to the bill at the Bluesfest. "When you look at the company we're stepping into, it's very scary", said front-man Brad de Rails. "We were beaten into second place at the Golden Fiddle Awards by the Davidson Brothers (which is an acolade in itself) and now we're on the same bill as Crowded House, Jack Johnson, Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck. I keep pinching myself.
