Bil BilsonBig Bil Bilson was born in Murwillumbah NSW sometime back in the 60's. He often spent time bushwalking around his home, and one day while drifting around Round Mountain, he chanced across a massive hollowed out log. Upon tripping over the log he noticed a strong 'Doof' sound and amused himself for a while by continually kicking it. For three days & nights he kicked, until bruised and battered, and he fell to the ground. Unable to walk or crawl, he began lashing at the log with a branch - and to his surprise came a sharp 'Crack' sound. For three more days he cracked at the log, working himself into a state of delirium. On the seventh day, he made it back home, mumbling Boom-Tat, Boom-Tat, as if lifted by the spirits of Round Mountain. Soon after, the Sun shone bright for the Boy who discovered that 60's Ludwig drums make much the same sound as the log. From there he ventured to Sydney to perform Boom-Tat with bands such as Perfect Cousins, Playboy Lords, Abbatoir (who slaughtered Abba songs) and Sparklers, to name a few. But as the years passed, he could feel the log calling in his dreams, and he returned to search for it. From 1998 to 2004 he searched but his efforts were unrewarded. In 2006 he decided on the next best thing.. To Boom-Tat with the Round Mountain Girls. |
